Green Kitchen Standard

Posted: 23rd May 2018

Mount Kelly is delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new initiative in association with our caterers, Thomas Franks.  We will be working together to gain the Green Kitchen Standard, a new certification launched by the Soil Association Certification and Carbon Trust which recognises caterers that are taking positive steps to sustainably manage energy, water and waste.

Mount Kelly will be one of the first schools to take part and will be focusing on all of these key areas.  In order to reduce plastic waste, we will be replacing single-use plastic bottles with branded reusable BPA-free plastic or stainless steel bottles for matches and other outside activities. New compostable and recyclable packaging will be phased in and all food waste will be measured.

We will implement impactful campaigns to increase awareness of the effect of food wastage and how we can work together to reduce waste and preserve natural resources. We will also work to conserve energy and water through more efficient use of refrigeration, cooking and dishwashing appliances.

We look forward to gaining the Green Kitchen Standard certification.  More information about the initiative can be found here.
