Life at the College

Mount Kelly is a busy, bustling place. Academic lessons and a range of clubs and societies take place Monday to Friday, with the focus at the weekends being on activities, sports fixtures and outings for boarders on Sundays.

From Monday to Friday the school day commences with meetings and registration in Houses at 8.15am following which pupils attend  lessons or Chapel.  Chapel services throughout the week include Thought For The Week, pupil-led chapel, Thursday services, where guest preachers lead the service, and congregational practices.

Each lesson is 55 minutes long with a 5 minute transition period between them. Pupils have a break in the morning with a lunch break between 12.45pm – 2.00pm that also includes time for clubs, meetings and optional activities. Academic Clinics commence at 1.25pm.

The school day finishes at 5.40pm when day pupils can be collected.

On Saturday mornings the Moor2Sea programme focuses on activities designed to complement the academic curriculum, enrich the pupils’ experience and enhance their CVs. Options include the Extended Project Qualification, horse-riding, climbing, and cookery. Family and friends are also encouraged to participate in some of these activities to underpin the family ethos at the heart of Mount Kelly. Saturday is the main day for sports fixtures and pupils are expected to be available to represent the school in sport if they are selected.

On Sundays, boarders are able to relax and enjoy some free time or join trips which are organised throughout the term such as swimming, walks on the Dartmoor and mountain biking.
