Spoken English Semi Final

Posted: 9th March 2015

Friday 6th March saw the Library at the College packed with pupils, parents and friends, to hear the 20 semi finalists from Years 7 and 8 compete for a place in the Final of the Spoken English Competition. Mount Kelly Foundation Governors, Mrs Wendy Davis and Mr Keith Hollinshead, had the unenviable task of selecting nine finalists, and the confidence, enthusiasm and all round talent of the children made their deliberations very challenging! The array of poems chosen was considerable: from humorous poems such as The Armpit of Doom (by Kenn Nesbitt), through to classics like The Charge of the Light Brigade (Alfred, Lord Tennyson), via hunting, gymkhanas, snogging on a park bench, falling into a river, and the trenches of the First World War.

Congratulations to winners Lizzy Bennett, Lauren Hession, Charlotte Smith, Jess Clinton, Ella Sorensen, Harry Hurrell, Freya Hadow, Marcus Coleridge, and Flora Germon (in no particular order). Along with some 18 pupils from Years 3 to 5 from the Prep, they will all perform again at the Final on Friday 13th March at 6pm in the front hall of the Prep.
