The first Athletics tournament of the season took place at Exeter Arena on Tuesday giving 52 pupils from Years 7-10 the chance to shine across the full range of track and field events. With no pupil able to compete in any more than two events, and points amassed for performance instead of race position, this truly was a team event. The day saw some outstanding performances along with pupils stepping up to the mark and giving events a go for the first time to gain valuable points.
The 14 boys selected from across Years 7 and 8 did tremendously well against some very large schools in the Junior Boys’ category, finishing in a creditable 4th place.
The 12 girls representing the school in the Junior Girls’ category claimed top spot! They will be the first team to represent Mount Kelly in the latter stages of the Cup in the Regional Finals in June.
Highlights for the Inter teams included a 1st in the 200m for Jamie, 2nd in Shot for Emily, 1st in the 200m and Long Jump for Ben, 1st in the 300m and 3rd in the Triple Jump for Sandor and a 2nd in Discus for Tom. Overall both the Inter Girls’ and Inter Boys’ teams finished 4th.
