Devon Athletics Championships

17 Mount Kelly athletes competed at the combined Devon County and Devon Schools Championships held last weekend at Exeter Arena, producing some outstanding performances and taking home a clutch of medals. A number of them are now waiting to see if they have been selected to represent Devon at the English Schools Track and Field Championships in Manchester in July. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Kate got the day off to a great start, winning the 300m hurdles with a county standard time of 47.60 seconds.
  • Year 9 boys, Bart and Rory, saw all their hard work in training pay off with Rory coming 1st in the 100m with a county standard time and Bart coming 2nd. Rory went on to win both the 200m and long jump with county standards whilst Bart won the 300m schools event and came 3rd in the long jump.
  • Rowan gained 1st place in the U15 300m county event as well as 4th place in both the 800m and the shot put.
  • Anna came 6th in the discus and 4th in both her 100m heat and the 300m.
  • Louisa came 3rd in the shot put and 2nd in the hammer with a county standard throw.
  • Matilda put in a good performance on the track and gained 3rd place in the 800m.
  • Annabelle put a difficult few months of injury behind her with a great performance in the 300m, gaining second place with a county standard time of 43.34 seconds.
  • Lucy gained 3rd place in both the hammer and shot put.
  • Amelia gained 6th place in the 1500m and 4th in the 300m.
  • Ben gained 5th place in the 200m event.
  • Annika had a very successful day taking an early lead in the 3000m to take the win with 10:50.96, gaining her county standard time. She took part in the 1500m Steeplechase for the first time, taking 1st place with another county standard!
  • In the U20 age group, Charlie came 8th in the fastest 100m race seen in the county this season and gained 5th place in the shot put.
  • Ben came 2nd in the 100m with a time of 10.93 seconds and came first in the long jump with a distance of 6.71m, both of which are entry standards.
  • At a junior level, Florence came 3rd in the 800m, Ellena came 8th in the 1500m and Zara finished 4th in her 100m and 200m heats.
