European Day of Languages

Posted: 1st October 2021

Pupils across the school participated in a wide range of activities this week to celebrate the European Day of Languages. These included an assembly about the importance of learning a language, several cultural quizzes, a House Duolingo competition to learn Italian, and a film to celebrate linguistic diversity.

House Duolingo Italian learning competition
The school has been abuzz with the sound of ‘pings’ as Duolingo competition fever has overtaken the houses. Pupils and staff have spent an astonishing 570 hours learning Italian so far this week, and the competition isn’t over yet! The Languages Faculty has been highly impressed with the high levels of dedication, participation and exceptional house spirit demonstrated by pupils, and we look forward to declaring the winning house at the beginning of next week.

Celebration of the diversity of the school community
Pupils in the International Society have been making a film to celebrate the linguistic diversity of the Mount Kelly community at the College. Pupils were also treated to an international feast in the dining hall, with a variety of dishes from countries around the world.
