Inspiring our Pupils

Posted: 1st March 2023

A Level Business Studies pupils were presented with an excellent talk from Ian MacQueen, Chair of Governors, about his extremely interesting, diverse and successful business career.

The discussion covered his entire career including his notable successes such as taking Bensons for Bed from 10 stores to 97 stores and setting up the first petrol forecourt shops. He also talked about his time at Fiskars (orange scissors); especially the challenges of offshoring the manufacturing process.

Other topics discussed included equity hedge funding, split shareholding, debt funding and organisational structure.

From leaving school at 18 to setup a store and café to eventually running multi-million-pound industries, it was a motivating and inspirational talk for all aspiring young entrepreneurs in the Mount Kelly Sixth Form.
