CCF Visits HMS Raleigh

Posted: 24th November 2017

On Tuesday 21 November, Mount Kelly’s Royal Navy and Army cadets visited HMS Raleigh to experience the Royal Navy’s Damage Repair Instructional Unit (DRIU).  Known as HMS Havoc, the DRIU is a simulator of a sinking ship.  The cadets’ challenge was to prevent their ship from sinking, and through a combination of teamwork, wooden wedges and some controlled aggression on the hammers, all three teams were able to plug the leaks and save the ship!

The afternoon followed with an introduction to Royal Navy firefighting, including some practice outside afterwards. The DRIU is an exceptional facility and we are very fortunate to have been offered a space on it.  All the cadets thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it is an experience that they will not forget in a hurry.
