Devizes to Westminster 125 mile race

Posted: 4th April 2015

This Easter weekend 16 Mount Kelly pupils are taking part in the 125-mile Devizes to Westminster canoe race. The ‘DW’ race is internationally renowned throughout the canoeing and kayaking world as possibly the  most gruelling canoe race of its kind and is appropriately known as the ‘Canoeists’ Everest’. Enthusiastically supported by their parents and staff, the MK paddlers are taking part in the Junior Race which takes place over the four days of the Easter weekend with approximately eight hours spent on the water every day, navigating locks, weirs, river traffic, fellow competitors and the wintery conditions! The final stretch of the race on Easter Monday will see them setting off in the dark at 4.50am from Teddington where they will paddle with the tide to their final destination, Westminster Bridge. We wish all our pupils and their support crews good luck and God Speed!  For regular updates on their progress visit the school’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/KellyCollegeDevon
