From Australia to Devon

Posted: 10th September 2015

1st XV rugby at Mount Kelly welcomes this term three exchange students from our Australian rugby school exchange partner, Marist College in Canberra, as well as Seth Waterworth, the new graduate trainee rugby coach. Two of our Mount Kelly pupils visited Marist in June earlier this year and are delighted to welcome to Devon their counterparts.

The rugby season started with Milton Abbey, who came across from Dorset to have a couple of days pre-season training at Mount Kelly and they all enjoyed a 40 minute hard coaching session with former England player, Graham Dawe.

Their match on Saturday 5th September resulted in a 37-5 win for Mount Kelly, with some great play by our home team. After the game both teams enjoyed the Plymouth Albion – Richmond match in Plymouth. Mount Kelly’s rugby coach Mr Waterworth is still registered to play for Richmond and Mr Dawe runs the Plymouth Albion team, so the boys were looking forward to seeing their coaches matched up! This successful weekend was greatly enjoyed and there was much camaraderie between the teams – next year, Milton Abbey will host our boys in Somerset.
