Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Posted: 8th January 2019

Congratulations to Year 13 pupils, Jake and Alex, on the successful completion of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards.  This is an outstanding achievement, requiring significant time and commitment, and Jake and Alex will have the opportunity to attend a presentation ceremony at St James’s Palace.

As part of the award scheme, Alex undertook an extended project, independently researching the potential benefits of switching to car free cities. He also volunteered as a Spanish teaching assistant at the Prep and, for his residential trip, travelled to Valencia to complete a Spanish language course with people of all ages from around the world; highlighting the independence he has gained from completing the award.

In a change from the hike traditionally undertaken for Duke of Edinburgh, Jake spent eight days sailing from Brixham to Plymouth on an enjoyable trip, learning many new skills along the way.

The scheme has encouraged Alex and Jake to try new activities and challenges and they would strongly encourage anyone to participate in the award scheme.
