Swimming Success at Inter-County Championships

Congratulations to the Devon Team who stormed to second place in Division One of the Swim England Inter-County Championships in Sheffield last weekend, representing Devon's best ever result in the history of the competition.

The Devon Team surprised their competitors following their recent promotion to Division One. The team of 27 swimmers included 10 Mount Kelly pupils, and Greg King as Head Coach. Oliver Taverner was appointed Team Captain, and was joined by Bella Hodges, Georgina Dennis, Kaylee Dekker, Athena Clayson, Savanna Best, Sandor Apponyi, Ben Harrison, Sam Dailley and Harry Noble.

·        Athena Clayson swam to first place in the 16/17 Years 100m Freestyle in a new Open Mount Kelly Record of 56.14 seconds.

·       Savanna Best swam to a brilliant third place in the 16/17 Years 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1.10.64.

·       Sam Dailley finished third in the 16/17 Years 100m Butterfly and eighth in the 16/17 Years 100m Freestyle.

·       Kaylee Dekker finished fourth in the 14/15 Years 100m Freestyle and contributed to the 6×50 Freestyle Relay, taking victory in the final event of the day.

·        In the same age group Georgina Dennis swam a brilliant split of 26.32 in the 14/15 Years Medley Relay, on the way to fourth place.

·        Ben Harrison swam a lifetime best to finish tenth in the 16/17 Years 100m Backstroke.

·        Oliver Taverner swam to sixth place in the 16/17 Years 100m Breaststroke.

·        Sandor Apponyi and Bella Hodges both swam new lifetime bests on their way to securing points for the team. Sandor swam 1.09.63 in the 100m Breaststroke and Isabella achieved 1.07.52 in the 100m Backstroke.

·        Harry Noble, Oliver Taverner and Sam Dailley contributed to the 16/17 Years Medley Relay, taking victory, and Athena Clayson and Savanna Best teamed up with two swimmers from Plymouth to take victory in the 16/17 Years Medley Relay.

It was a truly brilliant day of racing, showcasing some amazing swimming talent.
