The Cox Tor Walk

Posted: 15th September 2016

The annual Cox Tor Walk took place on Sunday 11th September. Despite a slightly damp start, the weather was kind to the 300 walkers who enjoyed the fabulous walk to the top of Cox Tor and back, starting from the College Parade Ground. A large variety of members of the Mount Kelly community were there including pupils, parents, staff, grandparents – and even dogs. With the youngest there just four days old, and the oldest over 90, it was a truly multi-generational event.

The Cox Tor Walk has featured at the school for over 100 years (originally introduced as an activity to distract the new boys from feeling homesick) and pupils upheld the long-held tradition of carrying a small stone (collected from the banks of the River Tavy en route) and placing it on what is affectionately known as the 'Mount Kelly Cairn' at the top of Cox Tor.
