Wells Cathedral and Summer Concert

Posted: 1st July 2016

It's been a busy week for our musicians and choristers across the Foundation.

The College Choir travelled to Wells on Monday 27th June, skilfully avoiding the mass exodus from Glastonbury and ready to perform in one of the most beautiful cathedrals and concert venues in the country.  There was a substantial audience of locals, visitors and Mount Kelly parents on hand to hear the choir on top form, singing an eclectic mix of traditional repertoire (I vow to thee my country) and gospel (Shackles) concluding with a wonderfully moving performance of Bob Chilcott's An Irish Blessing.

The Prep Summer Concert on Thursday was a fitting culmination of a great year of music from our younger pupils. Over 40 musicians put on a superb concert showcasing the talent of our pupils playing in one or more of the string, brass and wind ensembles as well as a number of confidently performed solos, all of which had the audience captivated. Mary Li  (Year 6) solo performance of 'Allegro con Spirito' on the piano was a particularl highlight. The Junior and Senior Prep Choirs also performed, and the Senior Choir's rendition of 'Without you' proved to be a great finale to the evening.
