World Book Day

Posted: 11th March 2016

World Book Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by pupils and staff across the Mount Kelly Foundation on Thursday 3rd March. Hundreds of fancy dress costumes meant that that the classrooms in the Prep and College were filled with a wide and eclectic assortment of literary characters, including, to name but a very few: Mr Men, Muskateers, Mary Poppins, Grim Fairytale characters, Alice in Wonderland, dragons, knights, princesses, and even a couple of dictionaries! A great assortment of literature-themed cakes were submitted for the Mount Kelly ‘literary bake-off’ competition. Author and illustrator, Philip Reeve, was on hand to sign copies of his books and he delivered an inspirational workshop to some of our older pupils at the College. Pupils also enjoyed guessing the owners of the mystery staff ‘shelfies’ (a photograph of staff’s book shelves taken at home) as well as the display of photographs of staff and pupils reading in unusual locations. It was a truly fantastic day for all, and to experience first-hand the very real power of literature to inspire and enthuse.
