EDT Bronze Award

Posted: 18th February 2022

On Thursday 17 February, 12 Year 9 pupils visited the Plymouth based, Schneider Electric, an international fortune global 500 company, which specialises in Smart Home apps and appliances, for an exciting day in industry.

This year, Engineers from Schneider electric are mentoring two teams of Year 9 pupils to complete this year’s national Engineering Development Trust (EDT) Bronze Award and competition, to design and make two unique products aimed at improving sustainability and car security.

The pupils spent the afternoon visiting the factory, meeting engineers, and saw some amazing technological computer-aided manufacturing, including laser cutting and automated CNC robots.

As part of the visit, the pupils were fortunate to be able to meet the Vice President, Kelly Becker of Schneider Electric UK, and her chief engineer, Alice, who were extremely keen to meet the two teams to discuss routes into and careers in Engineering, and the pupils’ exciting individual projects.

In March, pupils will submit their final reports and models and present their ideas to a team of UK based engineers, in the final stage of this national competition and bronze level award scheme.
