“He calls it home without even thinking twice!”
Year 7 boarding parent
Mount Kelly has a strong boarding ethos, and we offer daily, weekly and full boarding from Year 3. Ask our boarders what they like most about boarding and they’ll say ‘being with friends’. The combination of camaraderie and support helps children build relationships that last a lifetime.
We want boarding to be a fabulous and fun experience for all the children in our care. We want them to feel at home, feel part of the school and feel a strong sense of belonging to a community that welcomes all. Cherished and listened to, our boarders are cared for in a family setting.
Tavy House is the Prep boarding house and is set within the main building where boarders are well cared for by our team of Houseparents, matrons and residential staff. The dorms are bright and spacious with many of them offering unrivalled views across the Tavy Valley and Tavistock. Blessed with ample facilities, our boarders embrace all that is around them from the river, the playing fields, cricket nets, tennis court, the farm, the outdoor swimming pool, adventure playground and Sports Hall.
Weekly boarding is a popular option at the Prep. It is a choice often initiated by the pupils themselves, because they want to get the most from busy school life and take the very safe first steps towards independence. For those who choose to board full time, Saturday trips include ice skating at the Eden Project and surfing in Cornwall, with a quiet family-style day on Sundays.
We very much look forward to welcoming you and your children into the Mount Kelly Boarding family.
