Our Prep pupils had an engaging week in fire safety, led by the Devon and Somerset Fire Services. The week kicked off with an engaging fire safety assembly led by Rachel May from Devon and Somerset Fire Services, where Years 3 through 8 learned key information including how to evacuate safely and why smoke alarms are vital in fire prevention. The session was interactive and effective, with plenty of opportunities for pupils to ask questions and get involved.
Following the assembly, Year 2 and Year 5 pupils took part in separate fire safety workshops, diving deeper into the world of the emergency services. Through a hands-on workshop and engaging discussions, Year 5 explored the vital roles of firefighters and other emergency responders, learning how they react in emergency situations and the importance of teamwork and quick thinking.
Year 2 were then led through a workshop from Rachel on fire safety, and the many responsibilities firefighters take on, as well as helping pupils practice the “stop, drop and roll” procedure. To reinforce their learning, Year 2 embarked on a fire safety walk around the school and a trip into Tavistock, where pupils spotted safety devices at St Eustachius’ Church and at The Wharf.
To round off the week, the pupils learned about Bonfire Night by creating puppets to act out its history and made vibrant firework artwork, all while reinforcing the importance of safety. Thank you again to Devon and Somerset Fire services for their services and speaking to our prep pupils.
