Pupils and staff recently completed an impressive 24-hour charity cycling challenge, demonstrating exceptional commitment, teamwork and resilience in support of the School’s chosen charity, Devon Mind. The event brought together the whole school community in a shared effort to raise both vital funds and awareness for mental health and wellbeing.
Over the course of the challenge, participants cycled continuously for 24 hours, collectively covering an outstanding 5,062 kilometres. The event involved all six houses and made use of six static bikes, with an impressive 192 pupils and 22 members of staff taking part. Support remained strong throughout the day and night, with pupils and staff encouraging one another and ensuring the challenge ran smoothly from start to finish. The houses competed to achieve the furthest total distance, adding an extra element of excitement to the challenge. Courtenay House emerged victorious, cycling an exceptional 909 kilometres, with Marwood finishing a close second and Newton taking third place by the narrowest of margins.
The school is extremely proud of everyone involved. Special recognition goes to Deputy Head Boy Barnaby R, who organised the event. Following his remarkable English Channel swim last year for a men’s mental health charity, Barnaby’s leadership and continued commitment to mental health causes were central to the success of this year’s fundraising effort for Devon Mind.
