Deputy Head (Boarding) Appointment at the Prep

Matty Thavenot will be joining the Prep in September as Deputy Head (Boarding) and Head of the Science Faculty.

Matty was educated at Eton and University College London, where he obtained a Biology degree. Having dipped his toes into the City, he quickly moved to his ideal career at Cumnor House in Sussex. He qualified whilst teaching full time and during his nine years in Sussex he rose up the ranks to Senior Master before moving to Summer Fields, Oxford, where he and his wife, Carolynn, are Houseparents for the buzzing Year 5 boarding house.  Matty is a very experienced Science specialist and has run a ground-breaking Cross-Curricular Learning initiative as well as coaching many sports including rugby, cricket and sailing and lacrosse. He is also a tutor for the Boarding Schools Association helping to train and raise the standards of pastoral care in boarding schools.  

They have two young children and a working golden retriever,  and Matty’s interests include sailing, rugby, sea fishing, African wildlife, the great outdoors and golf.
