Last Friday saw a packed hall at Mount Kelly Prep enjoying some excellent poetry recitations from pupils from Years 3 – 8. Parents, friends, governors and staff were entertained to a tremendous variety of poetry, from humorous ditties and nonsense poems by the very youngest children, to accomplished performances of modern and classic poetry from the older pupils.
As adjudicator for the event we were delighted to welcome Mr James Dixon, Deputy Head (Academic), designate, who had the tricky task of listening to all the performers before awarding the four cups. We were very grateful to Mr Dixon for the considerate way he commented favourably on all the pupils, whilst also giving useful tips for improving their performances.
The final of the Spoken English competition is the culmination of a great deal of hard work by pupils, families and teachers, and Mrs Butcher, who organised the event, would like to express her sincere thanks to all for their support.
The results were:
Senior Section (Year 7 and 8)
Winner: Ella Sorensen Runner up: Harry Hurrell
Intermediate Section (Year 5 and 6)
Winner: Jamie Brew Runner up: Archie Burton
Junior Section (Year 3 and 4)
Winner: James Coleman Runner up: Georgia Burton
Cup for Audience Enjoyment: Marcus Coleridge
