A team from Plymouth University visited Mount Kelly yesterday to run a Spectroscopy in a Suitcase workshop for Year 13 Chemistry pupils. The workshop, which is funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry, covers Infrared Spectroscopy and Mass Spectroscopy.
Pupils were given a range of different unknown compounds found at a crime scene to try and identify, using an Infrared Spectroscopy machine that the team brought with them. This was an invaluable opportunity to use specialised equipment and gain hands-on experience of these analytical techniques.
