A Busy Weekend of Swimming

Posted: 15th December 2021

The final weekend of term was another busy one for Mount Kelly’s swimmers with four competitions taking place simultaneously. In Newport, the Arena League team attended a hotly contested final and came out victorious in a nail-biting back and forth afternoon of racing. The victory guaranteed our qualification for the National A final in March as we look to defend the title won in 2020.

Also in Wales, our Para swimmers had the opportunity to finish their term with some high quality racing at the National Para-Swimming Winter Championships in Swansea. Leo, Sebastian and Alex all swam multiple personal best times, with Leo winning two Gold and a Bronze; Sebastian one Gold and a Silver; and Alex a 5th place finish.

Two Mount Kelly swimmers performed well at Scottish Short Course Winter Nationals with Matthew securing two 6th place finishes in Open finals in both the 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Backstroke. Connor swam personal best times in both the 100m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. Both swimmers did extremely well to step up just a week after swimming English Short Course Nationals.

Finally, closer to home, the final day of the Plymouth Christmas Meet concluded with a Mount Kelly age group record for Ben in the 200m Individual Medley and a huge haul of medals for the team:

  • 12 years & under: 9 Gold, 7 Silver & 7 Bronze
  • 13-15 years: 16 Gold, 7 Silver & 7 Bronze
  • 16 & over: 3 Gold & 3 Silver
