Middle Eastern Championships

A team of 38 swimmers attended the Middle Eastern Championships held at the impressive Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai. A first for Mount Kelly swimming, the meet provided lots of opportunity for heats and finals swims. A special mention must go to the six Mount Kelly pupils who were representing Team England as part of the prestigious DISE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) program they are currently completing and to Amelia who picked up top female swimmer of the meet.

The first day of racing saw 32 finalists, increasing to 37 on day 2 and 44 on day 3, with the percentage of step up swims from heats to finals increasing from 68% to a staggering 86% across the event. A huge medal haul of 11 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze made this an extremely successful meet for all involved and provided lots of international experience and development for our swimmers.

Pupils also enjoyed a cultural day visiting the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai aquarium, and taking in all the sights of Dubai.
