Biomedical Society Pharmacy Talk

The Biomedical Society was delighted to welcome visiting speakers Yung Strawbridge (Education Lead Pharmacist & PGDS) and Helen Woods (Chief Pharmacist for Cornwall) on Monday. After starting with an overview of their careers, they provided an in-depth account of how pharmacists operate within the NHS. Pupils from Years 10-13 were interested to learn about: the regular touchpoints that a pharmacist has with a patient; the risk of over prescription and addiction; the new development allowing pharmacists to prescribe drugs directly to patients; the importance of teamwork in the journey of a patient through their respective treatment; and the benefits of becoming a pharmacist in terms of job security and salary.
