Over the summer, six of our pupils embarked on two sailing voyages with the Tall Ships Youth Trust, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Conway Merchant Navy Trust with whom the School enjoys a long standing partnership.
Four pupils participated in the first expedition in July, spending seven days onboard a Challenge 72 yacht. The crew sailed from Portsmouth to France and the Channel Islands, and experienced the busy English Channel. A second voyage included two of our pupils, who spent five days aboard the Tall Ships Youth Trust ketch along the beautiful south coast.
All pupils were able to use the opportunity to gain experience afloat, meet teenagers from across the country, and complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award residential section. They were fully involved in life onboard, from hoisting sails and steering to cooking and cleaning. Living in the close confines of a yacht highlighted the importance of close teamwork and over the week they developed great camaraderie whilst also having great fun sailing.
