The Mount Kelly Parents’ Association (MKPA) organises and supports a variety of events during the school year to raise funds for specific fundraising initiatives at Mount Kelly and the charities it supports. Through its grant programme, members of staff are able to apply for MKPA funds for specific projects which would not normally be eligible for funding by the School. Since the beginning of this academic year, the MKPA is delighted to have donated towards a VEO camera for the Sports department and purchased three new bikes for the Pre-Prep, a bench for Newton House and ten Mount Kelly deckchairs for use at fixtures.

Mrs Kelly, Head of PE, explains “The purchase of the VEO2 camera allows pupils to see themselves playing and to analyse their game play alongside their coaches. Following a game, players can review footage, create highlights and analyse their play as an individual or as a team.

“Since the purchase of the VEO equipment, the PE and Sports departments have been able to use it for both coaching and academic purposes, capturing A Level, BTEC and GCSE footage for moderation. The interactive mode allows the camera to follow a player through a game and the AI technology tracks the ball. This will allow us to submit far more accurate and high-quality footage which will in turn allow our athletes to access the higher grades across all academic courses.”

Reception Teacher, Mrs MacEacharn, says that the new bikes are being thoroughly enjoyed by the Pre-Prep children.

“We only had one balance bike, which was very popular. Many children who have been through the Covid years are showing signs of a lack in physical ability, body control and inner core strength. The new bikes are incredibly beneficial in helping them develop their balance, control and inner core strength before riding a bike independently.”

Parents are invited to a range of exciting events throughout the year, and your attendance helps the MKPA to fund future projects at Mount Kelly. Look out for the Band Night in January and the Curry and Quiz in February: details will be available in the newsletter and at www.mountkelly.com/parents/mkpa.

If you would like to help with MKPA events, please do come along to the next meeting on Tuesday 28 November from 19.00 at the Market Inn, Tavistock.
