World Book Day

Posted: 3rd March 2023

Pupils and staff from Nursery to Sixth Form embraced World Book Day on Thursday 2 March, celebrating the theme of Reading for Pleasure.

Children at the Prep rose to the challenge of dressing up as a favourite book character and took part in a number of activities, including a Michael Morpurgo webinar, themed quiz and a door decorating challenge. They also enjoyed a themed lunch and a visit to Book Stop’s pop-up shop. Our Kingfishers and Herons wore their pyjamas to school, brought in their favourite book to share and Year 1 were joined by parents for a reading session in the afternoon.

At the College, teachers chose texts related to their subject specialism to share with their class. In Spanish, pupils were ‘leyendo a la luz de las velas’; reading and listening to Spanish fairy tales and literature by candlelight, whilst in the Maths department pupils were given code breaking challenges to celebrate books about Alan Turing and the Enigma Machine. The Art department had a visit from pseudo-Banksy, exploring protest art, whilst Poirot popped in to English lessons. Next week, pupils will be able to browse copies of the books endorsed by their teachers at the Book Stop pop-up shop.
