Space Odyssey Dome

Posted: 7th February 2019

Pupils from Nursery to Year 8 were taken on an amazing journey through space yesterday. The Space Odyssey Dome, a fascinating planetarium experience, was set up in the Wortham Hall where pupils enjoyed an exciting and interactive show led by Simon Ould, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and experienced Science Teacher. The dome uses 360-degree 3D digital projection technology, stunning graphics and advanced computer simulations to create an immersive, interactive learning environment tailored to each age group. 255 pupils from all year groups at the Prep thoroughly enjoyed the experience; each of them leaving the dome with their heads spinning, both with information and a rollercoaster trip!

Pupils learnt about our position in space, the relative sizes of planets, a variety of space missions and numerous other topics.  In a subsequent lesson, Year 7 pupils extrapolated one aspect of the talk by scaling down the solar system and looking at microbes.
