GCSE Art Signwriting Workshop

Posted: 26th May 2021

Year 10 GCSE Artists took part in an exciting signwriting workshop on Tuesday 25 May with Dingles Heritage Fairground Centre.

Curator, Ali Holmes, spoke to pupils about the origins of fairgrounds and the history behind the artwork which drew people in. Pupils were able to view original fairground signs, gags (small signs) and painted signwriting prompts. They then spent time in the studio practising drawing selected words, calligraphy, colour choice and paint application.

Pupils are currently exploring the theme Recover, creating and developing their own postmodern retro fairground sign.
