Giving Back to the Community

Posted: 24th September 2021

Mount Kelly is committed to supporting and working with our local community, and many of our College pupils are involved in weekly volunteering activities.

Pupils in Years 9 and 10 started their volunteering sessions this week with one group continuing to maintain Yelverton play park by weeding, clearing leaves and picking up litter. Another group is helping with litter-picking in and around Tavistock, starting at the Pimple this week.

Year 10 pupils are working in our own Market Garden at the Prep. The school community has already enjoyed courgettes and marrows which were sold this week.

Pupils with an interest in DT have formed a group to maintain and renovate parts of Mount Kelly’s boat, Olga, whilst our keen bakers are busy making biscuits and cakes to sell on Wednesdays and Thursdays for the school’s chosen charity, Tavistock Memory Café.

Some of our Year 11 pupils are taking up volunteering placements in Tavistock, and we are delighted that high street charity shops are accepting volunteers once again. We hope to get everyone a placement very soon.
