After a two year hiatus, 22 Cadets from the CCF Royal Navy Section embarked on their annual summer camp to HMS Raleigh for four days of dinghy sailing.
Despite some very strong winds everyone managed to get afloat in a range of dinghies and work towards RYA Qualifications. Across the four days cadets were able to sail both double handed dinghies and single handed dinghies – improving both their sailing skills and their teamwork and communication.
We are fortunate to be so closely located to HMS Raleigh, the home of all Royal Navy Sailor training, and Jupiter Point which is home to Royal Navy Seamanship Training. A total of 20 RYA Level 1 Dinghy Sailing qualifications were awarded and all cadets made huge improvements in their sailing skills, under some challenging conditions.
Next year we will endeavour to also book the weather!
