Wellbeing
At Mount Kelly, wellbeing isn’t just a priority, it’s a way of life. Our goal is to develop empowered and emotionally secure young people with the ability to manage the demands of modern life.
What is Mount Kelly’s approach to pastoral care and wellbeing?
Our Approach to Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
College and Sixth Form
At Mount Kelly, we believe that spiritual, moral, social, and cultural values are caught rather than taught, woven naturally into the fabric of everyday interactions. The foundation of these values lies in the quality of relationships between staff and pupils.
Every member of staff contributes through their day-to-day engagement with pupils, whether in the classroom or beyond. Certain subjects—such as Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE), Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), Relationship, Health and Sex Education (RHSE), and Online Safety play a key role in nurturing these values explicitly.
Alongside this, our dedicated pastoral team, including Housemasters and Mistresses, the School Nurse, Head of PSHE, Deputy Head, and personal Tutors, support pupils holistically, helping them prepare for life beyond school. Strong, supportive relationships form the bedrock of pastoral care at Mount Kelly.
We recognise that the moral, spiritual, social, and cultural development of each pupil is a complex, long-term journey. It cannot be achieved through curriculum alone, nor can outcomes always be easily measured. However, the character, confidence, and compassion demonstrated by our pupils speak volumes about our success in nurturing well-rounded, thoughtful individuals ready to thrive in the wider world.
Prep
At Mount Kelly Prep, we believe that wellbeing is the foundation for happy, confident learners. Our approach nurtures every child’s emotional, social, and mental health, helping them feel safe, valued, and supported every day.
Our dedicated pastoral team, including form tutors, house staff, and wellbeing specialists, work closely with pupils and families to create a caring and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We prioritise open communication, encouraging children to share their thoughts and feelings and build resilience.
Wellbeing is woven through the curriculum and daily life. From PSHE lessons that develop self-awareness, empathy, and healthy habits, to mindfulness activities and opportunities for outdoor learning, we help pupils develop the skills they need to manage challenges with confidence and kindness.
We also offer tailored support for pupils who need extra help, ensuring no one feels alone. Our strong community spirit, regular opportunities for reflection, and focus on respect and compassion help children build positive relationships and a real sense of belonging.
