Mr Samuel Massey

Sam Massey is a British trumpeter, composer, arranger and bandleader based in the South West of England, working across jazz, classical, pop and contemporary chamber music. He is the founder and musical director of Superlocrian, an innovative chamber jazz ensemble whose distinctive instrumentation and genre-spanning repertoire foreground original composition and imaginative re-arrangement. Superlocrian have appeared on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and released their debut album Hills & Valleys in 2024.

As a performer, Massey has worked with a wide range of artists including Clare Teal, Mike Westbrook OBE, Eliza Carthy MBE, Roy G Hemings, Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene, with performances broadcast on BBC Radio, Jazz FM, Absolute Radio and RAI Radio 3.

Alongside his performance work, he is an experienced educator and brass tutor, delivering workshops and projects across the UK. His work has been praised by The Guardian, and in 2025 he was a finalist in the Music Inspiration Awards at the Music & Drama Education Awards.
