Mrs Heather Clarence-Smith

Heather Clarence-Smith is the new Assistant Director of Sport at Mount Kelly. With over a decade of experience in independent schools, Heather brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for sports to her new role.

From a young age, Heather was deeply involved in various community sports clubs, including volleyball, table tennis, and hockey. Her enthusiasm for sports flourished during her secondary school years, leading her to pursue a BA in Coaching and Physical Education at Plymouth Marjon University. Heather’s dedication to hockey saw her playing at the National League level.

After university, Heather worked for a charity focused on delivering primary school sports programmes. She then spent a year at West Buckland School before moving to Ipswich School, where she served as Sports Development Officer, Head of Tennis, and coached various sports during games lessons.

Heather’s career continued to advance at Sherborne Girls, where she became Head of Rackets, Head of Hockey, and Head of the Marines section in the CCF. Outside of her school responsibilities, she was the head junior coach at Yeovil and Sherborne Hockey Club, working with coaches, parents and players aged 5 to 14.

Heather’s extensive experience has reinforced her belief in the importance of every child feeling like they are at their own ‘Olympics’- with no boundaries or ceilings, just a love and enjoyment for sport. She is committed to fostering a healthy relationship with sports for all children, ensuring that everyone at Mount Kelly feels they belong and are part of the BIG Mount Kelly team.
