Science Webinars

Pupils in Years 5 and 6 attended two fascinating Science webinars about corals this week.

The first webinar took place on Tuesday and focused on food chains within a coral reef and the children were tasked with putting a food chain together.

The second webinar was about adaptations of a coral. Pupils were shown a coral eating, and learnt that if a UV light is used and a yellow filter placed over the camera lens, the coral can be seen to glow in different colours, although the reason for this has yet to be discovered. When the scientist demonstrated this, each part of the coral was a different colour ranging from fluorescent yellow to green at the very tips of its tentacle.
