STEM Live Online Engineer Event

As part of their STEM Secondary Leaders Award, Year 12 Product Design pupils participated in two live online engineer events this week.

On Wednesday 25 September, Renewables Engineer, Lorna Bennet, from Catapult kindly took the pupils on a live tour of the world record-breaking Scottish off-shore wind turbine she is currently working on. The turbine boasts the second longest blades at 83 metres.

The following day, the pupils took part in another live online event with Structural Engineer, Eleanor Davies, from BuroHappold Engineering. Eleanor has gained considerable experience working and travelling around the world, involved in building everything from prosperity rope suspension bridges in Africa to earthquake safe housing in Asia.  She showed the pupils her portfolio of projects which include the O2 Arena in London, Tottenham and Arsenal stadiums and the 33 feet tall, mechanically walking Cornish miner, seen in Tavistock 2016.

Mount Kelly thanks Lorna and Eleanor for their inspiring insights into the world of mechanical and structural engineering.
