Empathy Week 2024

This week is Empathy Week. Founder, Ed Kirwan, believes that empathy is a 21st century survival skill in an ever more globalised world. “If everyone feels that they belong, if they feel seen, heard and understood then they will thrive. Wellbeing, academics and relationships – all of them will improve.”

At the College, pupils watched a short film about homelessness during tutor sessions this week and reflected on the scale of the problem in the UK, and how we can solve it.

Prep pupils attended to two live online Empathy Week assemblies. On Tuesday, they heard from Jaime, the founder of 52 Lives charity, who shared the story of a person in need of support and invited pupils to write kind messages for them. In Thursday’s session, pupils were encouraged to recognise and celebrate the contribution that refugees make to life in the UK.

The Well-being and Nature Club at the Pre-Prep has carried out kind deeds this term under the guise of the Kindness Elves. They have secretly helped out around the Pre-Prep to clean and tidy the play areas, especially the outdoor equipment store. The children have learnt that being kind to others is good for their own well-being, an important message backed up during the Empathy Week assemblies.
