Our Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme participants have spent the Summer Term preparing for their assessed expeditions.
For Year 9 pupils, the Bronze Award took them to the Tamar Valley, where the intricate navigation proved tough at times. However, their determination and teamwork shone through as they supported each other through the journey’s highs and lows and, despite some navigational challenges, every group completed the walk. A fantastic effort by everyone.
The grand finale for most of our Silver and Gold Award participants was their assessment expedition. This year, Wales beckoned once more, with 55 intrepid pupils venturing into the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. Five Silver teams tackled a demanding three-day expedition, while four Gold teams embarked on a four-day adventure. All pupils were self-sufficient throughout the walk, carrying everything they needed, including food, tents and cooking equipment. Each team had a dedicated staff assessor, with the Gold teams receiving additional scrutiny from an external assessor to ensure they met all of the DofE expedition requirements.
Glorious sunshine graced their journey and pupils displayed exceptional teamwork, supporting and motivating each other throughout the challenge. Their commitment and perseverance were inspiring, truly embodying the Mount Kelly values. A superb achievement.
