Mount Kelly Delegates Prepare for Oxford Model UN

The Mount Kelly Sixth Form Model United Nations Delegation is preparing for their conference at Oxford University this coming November. ‘Spirit of Inquiry’ drives this year’s Home Conference, showing how curiosity, critical thinking and open dialogue fuel debate, challenge assumptions and create real solutions in international affairs. Mount Kelly invites delegates to embrace curiosity as the heartbeat of diplomacy – digging deeper, asking bold questions and approaching every issue with an open mind and a genuine desire to learn.
Mount Kelly pupils will represent several countries across five committees:

African Union (AU). The African Union represents the nations of Africa in order to promote and support peace and security as well as political, social and economic affairs across the continent. Acting as member states, delegates will collaborate to discuss efforts toward regional peace and integration in the face of conflict.
Represented by Vincent for Somalia.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). This is the main global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality, with a particular focus on the rights and the empowerment of women.
Represented by Jennifer, Ava, Eve and Tilly.

Economic and Financial Committee. Representatives from member states gather to shape economic policy, financial regulation and fiscal coordination.
Represented by David, Oskar, Dylan, Matteo, Princess and Abiola.

Disarmament and International Security. Deals with disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community.
Represented by Alfred and Finn for Cuba, and Alex for Luxemburg.

United Nations Office on Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA). The UNOOSA promises to be a key player in this new space race.
Represented by Raphael for Romania, and Isabel for Luxemburg.

The 16 pupils have chosen committee roles aligned with their subjects and career ambitions, and over half term they’ll be diving into background reading and preparing position papers to ensure they hit the ground running on their return. We look forward to seeing the insights they bring to the upcoming conference.
