CCF at HMS Raleigh

Students in protective gear

The CCF Royal Navy section visited HMS Raleigh this week to try their hand at damage repair and firefighting.

The Damage Repair Instructional Unit (DRIU) is designed to train Navy personnel to repair battle damage. Following a demonstration in the CHAOS simulator, three teams were challenged to shore up holes in the decking and structure in cold water, smoked and darkness.

After lunch, pupils were shown how to tackle the different types of fires which can occur on ships, with the opportunity to use the hoses.

All teams tackled the challenges well, successfully completing the tasks set.
