Courtenay House Refurbishment

Mount Kelly Governors, and an advance party of Courtenay House boarding pupils, have been treated to a behind the scenes preview of their refurbished boarding accommodation.

Though the final finishing touches are ongoing, it was time to start celebrating the work involved in this huge project – five years in the dreaming, two years in the planning and just seven months in the execution.

Guy Ayling, Head Master said, “This project is about giving the best to our pupils to ensure we deliver on our purpose as a school, knowing full well that whilst we shape our buildings, they shape us.

“The pupils are front and centre of course and this renovation is the latest chapter in the story of this building; the story of the hundreds who have passed through it, and the many more who will come. It may be bricks and mortar, but its story is very much human.

“It is also an articulation of our confidence in boarding, as personified by our Courtenay Houseparents, Adam and Amy, who have kept the Courtenay boys buoyant throughout the process.”

Special thanks were extended to the School Governors, who backed the project all the way and made it possible to take the ambitious plan and put it into action.

Le Page Architects, quantity surveyors Randall Simmons LLP and TEC Construction were also thanked for showing such determination that there have been up to 70 workers on site over the last few weeks, and night shifts being pulled to get the job done.

Special thanks were also given to Jessica Paine, Finance and Operations Director, for her inspirational energy and determination to drive the project from the start and ensure it was completed with budgets remaining in tact.

“This is all part of our plans for investment in the school as a whole” said Guy Ayling. “Long may the drive to improve continue.”

More photos of the building will be shared as the final refurbishment and fitting out is completed.
