Ten Tors and DofE Training

The first of the overnight camping training walks for the Ten Tors and Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh teams took place at the weekend, with a total of 67 pupils taking part in some challenging weather conditions.

Ten Tors
Twenty-seven pupils set out from Princetown in relatively dry and clear conditions on Saturday afternoon. They reached their campsite at Huccaby Farm just a couple of hours later, where they pitched their tents and cooked their meals with commendable efficiency.

The weather stayed kind overnight, with the promised rain not materialising until after the teams got up and struck camp at 7am. However, the wind soon picked up and torrential rain started to fall. Due to the very challenging conditions, some routes were cut short and finished a little earlier than planned, however all pupils showed tremendous resilience and conducted themselves admirably.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
Forty Silver and Gold DofE participants headed out onto the moor for their final training walk ahead of their practice walk in March. Pupils joined the Ten Tors group to camp at Huccaby Farm and, on Sunday, worked well within their teams to navigate some tough terrain in very wet and cold conditions covering more than 20km to Shipley Bridge.

It was a tough but rewarding training walk, with everyone showing great grit and determination to complete it.
