CCF Visits BRNC Dartmouth

Mount Kelly’s CCF visited BRNC Dartmouth for an action-packed weekend.

Saturday began with the cadets put through their paces with some leadership tasks on the low ropes course, followed by a field gun exercise. After lunch, they visited the Navigation Centre, which houses two mock ship bridges with VR and screens, allowing cadets to navigate Plymouth Sound in two frigates. An iceberg and a number of cruise ships were placed in the Sound for them to contend with, along with the challenge of weather changing from a calm sunny day to a force 12 gale with 30-foot waves. The afternoon concluded with the cadets completing their Royal Navy swim test in the College pool and an entertaining game of water polo.

Sunday morning began with a 7am parade for colours, followed by a tour of the college by Sophie Rennie Lt RNR, and an insightful talk about what it is like to join and go through the course at BRNC. The cadets then had the opportunity to use the indoor recreation area before returning to Mount Kelly.

Our thanks go to Lieutenant Rennie (RNR), CPO (AWW) Alan ‘Jonah’ Jones, Lieutenant Skingle (CFAV) and Trudie Bratt (NUAV) for an enjoyable and fulfilling trip.
