Five pupils represented Mount Kelly at the First Lego League yesterday, a worldwide competition held in collaboration with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). A celebration of innovation, teamwork, and the application of STEM principles to real-world challenges, the competition requires pupils to build a robot using the Lego technics platform, incorporating motors, sensors and coding to complete missions in an arena.
Our team embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, impressing the judges with their robot and presentations about its design, as well as their innovation project: an ambitious plan to tackle the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
‘The First Lego League emphasises the importance of core values, including gracious professionalism and teamwork. Our team received a commendation for their collaborative spirit and conduct. As their coach, I couldn’t be prouder of Sennen, Sebastien, Finnley, Jacob, and William. They approached this competition with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a passion for problem-solving.’
The next season will be announced in August. With the experience gained, our team is sure to achieve even greater things in the future. Congratulations on a great start in the League.
