DW Training in Full Flow

boating

It has been a busy couple of weekends for our DW crews, starting with their moving water training session on the River Tamar to prepare them for the tidal section of the Thames into central London. Conditions on the Tamar were good and the crews coped well with the fast-moving water and some wind on tide which pushed over the bows of their kayaks. Sunday saw them back on the Exeter Canal for their final time trail of the term, once again in glorious weather.

Last weekend they raced 24 miles in the Waterside race from Pewsey to Newbury. All crews paddled strongly and hit their individual targets for the race, and a special mention goes to Jack and Keir who stormed down the canal to establish a new Mount Kelly record of 3:46:30 and take first school place in the Junior men’s category. Our crews were ably supported by their ‘support crews’ giving them a taste of what to expect over the Devizes to Westminster race this Easter.
