As part of Mount Kelly’s 150th anniversary celebrations, Year 13 Art and Design and Design & Technology pupils recently took part in the launch of the Legacy Stained Glass Project. The project will see pupils design a series of stained glass panels that will become a permanent feature at Mount Kelly, creating a lasting legacy for future generations.
To introduce pupils to the project, we welcomed stained glass experts Warin and Sophia Kelly, who shared their knowledge of the craft and its rich history. They explored how stained glass has been used for centuries to tell stories, commemorate significant events and enhance important buildings.
Pupils also gained an insight into the artistic and technical considerations involved in stained glass design. Warin and Sophia offered practical advice on composition, colour, line work and construction, helping pupils understand how to turn their ideas into designs that can be realised in glass. They also encouraged pupils to consider how their work could reflect Mount Kelly’s heritage while looking towards its future.
A highlight of the session was the opportunity to present their initial concepts and receive professional feedback to help develop their ideas.
The launch marked the beginning of an exciting project that brings together creativity, craftsmanship and Mount Kelly’s history. We look forward to seeing the designs take shape and, in due course, the finished panels become part of the School’s 150th anniversary legacy.
