An Insight Into Genetics

On Monday, the Biomedical Society was delighted to welcome Dr Sawsan Khuri, to deliver an influential talk on her inspiring and non-linear career path spanning from genetics research and entrepreneurship to her PhD on potato growth.

Not only did Dr Khuri enlighten us on her work related to the Human Genome Project, which many of us found highly interesting, she talked about the importance of determination and being curious within all aspects of life. Dr Khuri explained that both of these qualities helped her achieve a PhD in Plant Science and, in due course, opened many doors for her later in life while working at the University of Miami within the Institute for Data Science and Computing.

We all found Dr Khuri’s talk very empowering and have learnt that careers do not have to be perfectly linear; rather, it is about having the confidence to make the leaps to advance in your career when they present themselves.
