Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Through the Brecon Beacons

Six hikers with backpacks stand in a grassy hill meadow under a clear sky, posing for a group photo on a hiking trip.

Over the week, 62 Mount Kelly pupils completed their Duke of Edinburgh Expedition in the stunning surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

41 pupils took part at Silver level and 21 at Gold, with all teams navigating and walking their routes independently under remote supervision. The expedition presented many challenges, not least the exceptionally hot weather, which required routes to be adapted on the ground. Teams rose to the occasion, demonstrating impressive competence in re-mapping and completing their revised routes with confidence.

Throughout the expedition, pupils embodied the Mount Kelly values of Courage and Commitment, pushing through demanding conditions and emerging stronger for it. We are pleased to report that all pupils followed guidance on staying safe in the heat, with the only souvenirs brought home being tired legs and a well-earned sense of pride.

We are especially proud of the strong sense of community shown throughout, with pupils looking after one another with great care. Members of the public sharing the campsites went out of their way to praise our pupils for their behaviour and conduct.
